Story
The patent gave a name, a date, and a legal description that looked like a coded line. The researcher wanted it to say more. The record refused.
So they drew the lines on a map, checked the county boundary for that year, and wrote a smaller sentence: this record places this name in this land system on this date.
That smaller sentence was stronger than the family legend they had hoped for. It could carry weight because it knew exactly what it was holding.
