Story
At the cemetery gate, the family agreed on a rule: photograph only what belonged to the old research question, and keep recent family details out of the public notebook.
The older stones gave names and dates. The spaces between them gave questions. Why this row? Why this church? Why did three surnames travel together from one county to another?
They left with a map, not a conclusion. The gate had opened onto a source trail made of markers, obituaries, church minutes, deeds, and memory that still needed consent.
Reflection questions
- What privacy choices matter during cemetery research?
- How can neighboring markers become research leads?
